Provent:
Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy is a simple and effective new treatment option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It utilizes the patient's own breathing to provide clinically proven results in the treatment of OSA. The Provent nasal devices are small and disposable, making it discreet and convenient- perfect for travel, camping, or those patients who are not interested in CPAP therapy. This therapy is only available by prescription and is for patients who have been diagnosed with OSA.
The Provent device is a disposable nightly-use device (meaning, it is worn one night, and then discarded). It is placed just inside the nostrils and is held in place by a hypoallergenic adhesive. When you inhale, the inspiration flow is normal. During exhalation, the device directs expiratory flow through small holes, which increases airway pressure (in similar fashion to that of a CPAP). This resistance helps maintain an open airway during sleep. Provent must be used every night to achieve clinical benefit.
Provent therapy may be a good option for patients who have been diagnosed with OSA and who are noncompliant with CPAP therapy. It's also a great option for CPAP patients who travel and do not wish to take their machines with them.
